MoT Passed

Passed.  Only issue was the emissions.  CO, etc. was fine, but the lambda value was too high.  Webcon has added a timing retard feature to the ECU to help with this.  With the relevant wire connected to earth the timing is retarded 10 degrees.  This causes the exhaust gas temperature to rise and get the catalyst to 'light'.  The issue is particularly acute at idle as the exhaust gases will be cooler.

The second attempt was better, but still a fail.  Then I noticed the exhaust gas probe was not fully in the silencer. If it is not fully in it can 'sniff' fresh air and upset the readings (due to the pulsing of the air, in and out of the silencer end).  With the probe fully in, everything was good and the emissions test was passed.

With the MoT out of the way I'll get on with making a booking for the IVA test and finishing off all my IVA-prep jobs.

Checking ECU Voltage

The Webon Alpha ECU needs minimum 9 volts from the ignition switched supply during enging cranking.  Checked this with a voltmeter while cranking and all was fine - just over 10.5 volts.  Thought the starter motor would have to work harder with the spark plugs in so tried again, this time with the starter motor working against the engine compression.  No problem here either - still around 10.5 volts.

Webcon Alpha Pro 4 Gold Throttle Bodies Kit

I've opened up the box and the kit is very comprehensive.  There's even a fuel filter and mounting hardware.  I will use this to replace the existing budget filter and home made bracket.  Should have read the kit contents before try to complete the fuel lines!

I was a little disheartened to find a large wiring loom.  I thought my wiring chores were over.  To be fair it is probably fairly straight forward and everything is labelled.  That makes a change.

Yesterday I made a call to Webcon to discuss connecting the ECU tacho output to the digital dashboard - didn't want to fry anything.  They were very helpful and happy to answer my technical questions in great detail, explaining how the ECU is built and operates.  I hopefully won't need their help, but it is very reassuring to know there is somebody there who can help.  Main piece of advice for installation was: don't touch any of the factory set screws that are thread locked.  Point noted.
